Edgar Martínez (born January 2, 1963), nicknamed " Gar " and " Papi ", is a Puerto Rican former professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a designated hitter and third baseman for the Seattle Mariners from 1987 through 2004.

Martinez finished his career as one of only six players in history with at least 300 homers, 500 doubles, a career batting average at least .300, a career OBP of at least .400 and a career slugging percentage of at least .500. “I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about Edgar Martinez,” said former Mariners manager Bob Melvin.
Edgar Martinez is a Hall of Fame designated hitter who played for the Seattle Mariners from 1987 to 2004. He won seven AL batting titles, five Silver Slugger awards, and was named to 10 All-Star teams.
