Alberto Tomba (born 19 December 1966 in San Lazzaro di Savena) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Italy. He was the dominant technical skier (slalom and giant slalom) in the late 1980s and 1990s.

Alberto Tomba, Italian Alpine skier who earned five Olympic medals, including gold in both the slalom and the giant slalom at the 1988 Games in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and in the giant slalom at the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France. He won the World Cup overall title in 1995.

Alberto Tomba was a charismatic sportsman who became the first Alpine skier to win medals at three Olympic Winter Games. Alberto Tomba was born in a non-Alpine area of Italy, close to Bologna. He was a natural sportsman and, after considering a career in several sports, he settled on Alpine skiing.
Alberto Tomba competed in his first Games at Calgary in 1988, and within the space of 48 hours, between 25 and 27 February, he won the giant slalom and the slalom. He became “La Bomba”, a huge star in Italy and within his sport, and continued to produce stellar performances for the next 10 years.
