A Demon in My View is a novel by British author Ruth Rendell. First published in 1976, it won the CWA Gold Dagger for Best Crime Novel of the Year, gaining Rendell the first of six Dagger awards she received during her career, more than any other writer.

Of a demon in my view— When we’re young and struggling to find and establish our place in the world, many of us feel as though we’re simply not like other people. It comes as little surprise that Edgar Allan Poe – if we take this lyric poem as a personal expression of his own feelings – felt like this, too:
Of a demon in my view— “The rest of Heaven” here does not specifically mean Heaven as the sky or the kingdom of the righteous. Here, Poe is comparing himself to the rest of the Universe and the other people he knows to be in it.
