Dharamshala (/ ˈ d ɑːr ə m ʃ ɑː l ə /, Hindi: [d̪ʱərmʃaːlaː]; also spelled Dharamsala) is a town in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It serves as the winter capital of the state and the administrative headquarters of the Kangra district since 1855.
Lying in the shadow of mighty Dhauladhar range is the quaint town of Dharamshala. Divided in two halves – Kotwali Bazar and the skirting markets make up Lower Dharamshala, which makes a dramatic transition in the upper reaches that has thick pine, cedar and Himalayan oak forests around the township of Mcleodganj.

It’s known for its religious iconography and is the monastery of the Dalai Lama, who holds public lectures a few times a year. Our weekend in Dharamshala proved to be a lovely, relaxing getaway in a clean, somewhat cool hill station with a relaxed pace but enough to do to stay busy. I recommend the town if you're looking for a getaway in Northern India.
