René Vandereycken (born 22 July 1953) is a Belgian retired professional footballer and manager. During his playing career, he played as a midfielder. He was the head coach of the Belgium national team from 2006 to 2009.
René Vandereycken (Spalbeek, 22 juli 1953) is een gewezen Belgische voetballer en voetbalcoach. Hij speelde onder meer voor Club Brugge en RSC Anderlecht en was later als trainer actief bij onder meer Standard Luik, KAA Gent en FC Twente. Van 2006 tot 2009 was hij ook bondscoach van België.
Débutant dans le club de sa ville natale, le Sporting Spalbeek, René Vandereycken a principalement joué comme milieu de terrain au FC Bruges 2 et au RSC Anderlecht. Avec ces deux clubs, il remporte six fois le championnat de Belgique.

He became the first defensive midfielder in the country, often merciless and intimidating. He eliminated the meek image of the previous generation of Red Devils. He played in two European Championships (1980 and 1984) and one World Cup (1986 where he was sent home after the first round). Vandereycken was and is a man of principles.
