The first Gelson's supermarket was opened in July 1951 by Bernard and Eugene Gelson. The second store opened in 1960 in Encino and the third store opened in 1965 in North Hollywood. In 1966, Arden Group acquired Gelson's. In February 2014, Arden Group sold Gelson's to TPG Capital for $394 million.

Everything I come to the century city mall, I stop at Gelsons. This really is a classy market with lots of fresh produce, and us always stocked well. It's located right off the parking structure and they validate for 2 hours. I usually get some beverages, candy, and like some spice for cooking.
