Yuri Herasymovych Ilyenko (Ukrainian: Юрій Герасимович Іллєнко, 18 July 1936 – 15 June 2010) was a Ukrainian film director, screenwriter, cinematographer and politician.

The film often makes difficult first viewing for unaccustomed viewers due to its hallucinatory nature, but its lucid tapestry renders it a mandatory experience.

Yuri Ilyenko. Ilyenko was born in Ukraine but grew up in Russia. He joined the Ukraine-based Dovzhenko Film Studios in 1963, and was invited to be the cinematographer of the Paradjanov helmed SHADOWS OF FORGOTTEN ANCESTORS/TINI ZABUTYKH PREDKIV (1964).
