Georgina Lightning is a First Nations film director, screenwriter, and actress. Biography. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, she is an enrolled member of the Samson Cree Nation. She was raised off-reserve, near the Samson community in Edmonton, Alberta. In 2007, she was featured in Filmmaker Magazine as one of 25 New Faces of Independent Film.

Oct 8, 2015 · If there is a woman who exemplifies the resiliency of the Indigenous spirit in Canada, it’s filmmaker Georgina Lightning. She grew up in Edmonton, Alberta in a Mushwatchees Cree family that struggled from the lingering effects brought on by the residential school system and a legacy of colonization.
Georgina Lightning, actor, director, producer (b at Hobbema, Alta 1964). Georgina Lightning was born into the Samson Cree Nation. Educated in Canada, she moved to Los Angeles in 1990 to pursue an acting career and enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
