Overview. Quinn focused on various traditional aspects of Irish culture and argued for their non-Celtic nature. One aspect he stressed is the role of sailing in Connemara society, where his films were made.
In 1986, Quinn wrote the script that he made into Budawanny in 1987 and for which he was awarded an Arts Council Film Script Award. Budawanny’s style is uncompromising. The island scenes are silent and in black and white, which accentuates the harshness of the isolated community and the futility of the relationship between the priest and his lover.
