Thor is a 2011 superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. It is the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the fourth installment of Phase One. The film was released on April 27, 2011, internationally and on May 6, 2011, in the United States.
The powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders. The warrior Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin (Sir Anthony Hopkins) for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live amongst humans.
In 2011, Thor prepares to ascend to the throne, but Frost Giants attempt to retrieve the Casket of Ancient Winters, an artifact seized by Odin in a war centuries before.
