May 13, 2003 · Doon wants to fix the city and trades to have a job in the underside of the city, hoping to explore the mystery of Ember. Lina gets a job as a messenger and is able to run across the city, taking messages back and forth and discovering the full extend of the shortags to come.
When mankind is about to come to an end, a group of scientists decide to create and populate a city deep underground. The City of Ember is to last for 200 years, after which its inhabitants are to retrieve from a strong box instructions to return to the surface.
