Ten Canoes is a film by Rolf de Heer and David Gulpilil, based on a photograph of ten men in canoes by anthropologist Donald Thomson. It tells two stories of hunting, love and payback in the Arafura swamp, using black-and-white and colour to contrast the past and present.
In Australia's Northern Territory, a man tells us a story of his people and his land. It's about an older man, Minygululu, who has three wives and realizes that his younger brother Dayindi may try to steal away the youngest wife. A story within a story.
