Feb 28, 2015 · A minor satire of Chinese bureaucracy and an intimate look at the Beijing streets, ‘Cala, My Dog!’ is an enjoyable yet flawed production that runs out of steam before it reaches its conclusion. Starting strongly, the story utilises an ingenious countdown system that interrupts the verisimilitude to show viewers how much time is left.
Cala, My Dog! is a 2003 Chinese film that effectively captures the relationship between a man and his dog, and in doing so, offers a poignant commentary on the human condition and the social environment in China at the start of the 21st century.
