Nora Shard (Elsie Ferguson) is a pretty American heiress who is courted by the impoverished Lord Bisset (Warburton Gamble). When she discovers that his motivations are mercenary, she forgets him and turns her attention to a writing project -- in collaboration with Sir Henry Furnival (Henry Stephenson), Nora is turning her novel into a play.

Nora Shard, a young American girl living in England, is ostracized from society for her presumed part in a scandal which culminated in a murder-suicide by a nobleman and his wife. Nora disguises her identity and goes to Italy, where she finds happiness - until the spectre of the past is raised.
