Overview. Rancher Clay and his brother, Steve, head out across the Sonora mountain pass, followed by Lednov, an ex-con seeking revenge on Clay for putting him behind bars.
“If it’s pretty speeches you want, you won’t be hearin’ ’em,” says the cynical, on-the-run rancher Clay (Robert Sterling) in Mark Robson’s Roughshod, a cold Western noir in which a gang of ex-cons led by Lednov (John Ireland) hunt down the man whose testimony had sent them up the river.
Wrangler Clay Phillips and his younger brother Steve are taking horses to their ranch near Sonora when they come across four dance hall girls heading the same way with a wrecked buggy. One of the girls is taken away by a boyfriend who came after her.
