Returning by ferry from a holiday in Ireland, unsuccessful songwriter Peter Weston (Donald Sinden) shares a cabin with a drunken Irishman who disembarks just before boarding, leaving Peter in charge of his pet alligator, named Daisy.
Confusion over an alligator suitcase results in an aspiring songwriter's getting stuck with somebody's pet alligator.

Returning from a cricket match in Ireland, Peter Weston gains a pet alligator from another passenger who abandons it with him. He is horrified and while his first instinct is to get rid of it he develops a relationship with a young Irishwoman who appears to be entwined with the reptile.
When Peter Weston (Donald Sinden) returns to England after a trip to Ireland, he finds that Daisy, a tame alligator, has been left in his care.
