Black Lizard (黒蜥蝪, Kurotokage) is a 1968 Japanese film directed by Kinji Fukasaku. The film is based on a play by Yukio Mishima which in turn is based on a novel by Rampo Edogawa. [1] The play had previously been adapted to film in 1962 by director Umetsugu Inoue.

Jun 30, 2021 · Excellent example of taking a slightly stodgy older Japanese detective story (1934 novel by Rampo Edogawa) and putting a modern spin on the tale. Subverts the idea of disguises to a modern level. And the relationship of the private detective and the femme fatale is also taken to a new level.
