Old-fashioned Soon-yi marries into a family in the country without love. But when her husband abandons her by enlisting into the Vietnam war, she wants to show that she is capable of loving him. She uses her vocal talent to join a band heading there and sings for the restless soldiers.
It's the story of a woman whose husband has been sent to fight in the Vietnam War after getting in a scrap with another soldier (a superior/officer, I think). He'd been cheating on her, but, at her mother-in-law's behest, she kept visiting him at his post. Now she has to find him in Vietnam, essentially because she has nowhere else to go.
