Hayreddin Barbarossa ( Arabic: خير الدين بربروس, romanized : Khayr al-Din Barbarus, original name: Khiḍr; Turkish: Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa ), also known as Hayreddin Pasha, Hızır Hayrettin Pasha, and simply Hızır Reis (c. 1466/1483 [1] – 4 July 1546), was an Ottoman corsair and later admiral of the Ottoman Navy.

Karl Westover, an inexperienced farm boy, runs away after unintentionally killing a neighbor, whose family pursues him for vengeance. He meets Barbarosa, a gunman of near-mythical proportions, who is himself in danger from his father-in-law Don Braulio, a wealthy Mexican rancher.
A beautifully filmed, nicely philosophic and rather old-fashioned western with an elegiac tone, well directed by Australian director Fred Schepisi (Breaker Morant), Barbarosa features uniformly strong acting, with Busey and Nelson making a good team.
