THE TIGER AND THE FLAME (aka JHANSI KI RANI, 1953) is quite an unusual film, a big-budget historical epic billed in the credits as "India's First Picture in Color by Technicolor," but made with some western help, including noted Hollywood cinematographer Ernest Haller and English film editor Russell Lloyd.

About. The Tiger and the Flame. ACTION. Manu is a very young girl when she is picked by the Rajguru to be a leader. Married at the age of nine to the much older ruler of Jhansi, Gangadhar Rao, she is made Queen. Under the tutelage of the Rajguru, Manu is schooled in fencing and physical combat and the art of military tactics.
Rajguru trains Manu, a young girl, in physical combat and political leadership. She then goes on to become the queen of Jhansi and fights against the tyranny of the British regime during the rebellion. The film was the first technicolor film made in India.
