Sep 18, 2019 · SWING LOW is a movie where the monsters are people. There’s even a bit of moral ambiguity because the murderous gang did have a reason why they killed the first man. However, the glee that they take in pursuing Harper and the awful things they do to her do lessen any sympathy that you might have for them.
What Ravage/Swing Low does is nothing new: a woman gets brutalized and seeks revenge. What does feel fresh, however, is how competent the heroine is. She is one step ahead of her perpetrators, as well as the audience, throughout much of the film.
When a nature photographer explains to the Police how she fought her way out of the Watchatoomy Valley, they dismiss her crazed and violent story as a meth-induced nightmare.
