D-Day the Sixth of June is based on the award-winning romantic 1955 novel "The Sixth of June" by Lionel Shapiro. Shapiro was a World War II Canadian war correspondent who landed with the Canadian Armed Forces on D-Day for the Allied invasion of Juno Beach.
One ship, carrying Special Force Six, leaves ahead of the main invasion on a dangerous mission. On board are British Colonel Wynter and American Captain Parker, who each, in flashback, reminisce about their separate involvements with beauteous Valerie Russell.
