    • 1. (1903–41), American baseball player; full name Henry Louis Gehrig; known as the Iron Horse. He played a record 2,130 major-league games for the New York Yankees from 1925 to 1939. He died from a form of motor neurone disease now often called Lou Gehrig's disease.
