Apr 29, 2020 · In June 1954 Gerry Mulligan recruited Fruscella for his piano-less quartet as a replacement for Bob Brookmeyer. They did two weeks at Basin Street followed by a set at the Newport Jazz Festival in July which was Tony’s swan-song with the group.
