Rabbi Maimon ben Joseph HaDayan (born c.1110) was a Spanish exegete, moralist and dayyan ( Hebrew for "judge"). He is best known as the father of Maimonides. His teacher was the respected scholar Joseph ibn Migash.
Spanish exegete and moralist; born about 1110; father of Moses Maimonides. He studied under Joseph ibn Migash at Lucena, and became a dayyan. He was the author of a commentary, in Arabic, on the Pentateuch, fragments of which are quoted by his grandson Abraham.

Jan 25, 2020 · Maimon (Ar. Maymūn) ben Joseph ha-Dayyan (ca. 1110–ca. 1166), the father of Moses Maimonides, was a disciple of Joseph ha-Levi ben Meʾir ibn Migash, with whom he studied in Lucena. Maimon served as a rabbi and jurist in Cordova until the Almohad conquest.

According to one explanation, it is the yahrzeit (anniversary of the death) of Maimon ben Joseph, the father of the great Jewish philosopher Maimonides (Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, also known by his acronym Rambam), a scholar in his own right who lived in Fez (Morocco) and wrote on Jewish-Islamic relations.
