The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) is a rigorous, highly selective school encompassing programs in music, dance, theatre, and musical theatre, as well as music theory, musicology, music education, and more.
The sleek and modern home for musical theatre and theatre & drama students features 100,000 square feet of space and includes the Arthur Miller Theatre, Stamps Auditorium, state-of-the-art classrooms, and studios for design, sound, screen acting, and performance, as well as extensive theatre shops.
The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is the undergraduate and graduate school for the performing arts of the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. The school was founded in 1880 as the Ann Arbor School of Music. It was originally independent from the university until 1929.
SMTD offers a wide variety of graduate degrees, including Masters, Specialist, and Doctoral programs, as well as certificates in particular fields of study. Applications open on or before September 1 each year.
