Ecgwynn or Ecgwynna (Old English Eċġwynn, lit. "sword joy"; fl. 890s), was the first consort of Edward the Elder, later King of the English (reigned 899–924), by whom she bore the future King Æthelstan (r. 924–939), and a daughter who married Sihtric Cáech, Norse king of Dublin, Ireland, and Northumbria.
Ecgwynn of Wessex (before, Ecgwynn of Cent) is a character in The Saxon Stories novel series, and in The Last Kingdom television series. She is the first and former wife of Edward and is the mother of the twins Æthelstan and Ædgyth.

Jun 1, 2024 · Very little is known of Ecgwynn. Her parentage is not known nor is her date of birth. She bore Edward two children – a son, Aethelstan who became King in 924 and a daughter. The name of Ecgwynn and Edward’s daughter was not recorded by contemporary sources but she was later referred to as either Edith or Eadgyth.
