Anne of York, Duchess of Exeter, aka Anne Plantagenet (10 August 1439 – 14 January 1476), was the first child of Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York, and Cecily Neville.
Anne, Duchess of Exeter is probably best known as the big sister whose descendants carried the mtDNA with which Richard III’s bones were identified. Anne’s own story was remarkable and tragic. She was the eldest of the family, born at Fotheringhay Castle on 11th August 1439.
