Palace of Dreams is a 1985 Australian fictional mini series about a Jewish family running a hotel in working class inner city of Sydney in the 1930s. Sandra Levy conceived and produced the series, based on her experience of living in a similar hotel run by her Russian Jewish mother during the Great Depression.
Palace of Dreams was a warm, sometimes amusing, sometimes sad, but largely appealing drama, innovatively presented and played out by a collection of easily likeable – or enjoyably unlikeable – characters.

Synopsis. Tom Raynor (Michael O’Neill) is a country boy with a dream to be a writer. He comes to Sydney to find work and is caught up in the turbulent and desperate times we now call the Great Depression. He is taken under the wing of a most unusual family, the Mendels, Russian Jews who own an inner-city pub called the Dundee Palace.
