Architect and sculptor born in Pontedera, near Pisa, also known as Andrea da Pontedera. Probably trained in a goldsmith's shop, he worked on the South Door of the Battistero in Florence from 1330 to 1336. At Giotto's death in 1337, appointed master-builder of the Opera del Duomo in Florence.
