May 16, 2021 · Paolo Canevari’s art has been sculpted from the shadows of the modern world, but he hasn’t lost hope. Working with pitch-black rubber, used tires, and exhausted oil, he turns the waste products and omnipresent aftermath of industry into poignant structures that highlight how human beings have reshaped the world.
Paolo Canevari (Rome, 1963) is known for using different media, such as drawing, video, sculpture and installations. His aim in his works is to convert the passive state of mind into an energetic, creative act.
Paolo Canevari was born in Rome in 1963, a third-generation artist in his family. Since his first solo show in 1991, in which he started using car tubes and tyres, Canevari has developed a personal language aimed at revisiting the everyday and the most intimate aspects of memory.
