Runme Shaw, K.St.J (Chinese: 邵仁枚; pinyin: Shào Rénméi; 1 January 1901 – 2 March 1985) was the chairman and founder of the Shaw Organisation of Singapore.
Runme Shaw (Tan Sri) (Dr) (b. 1901, China–d. 2 March 1985, Singapore) was a pioneer in the film and entertainment industry in Singapore and Malaysia. 1 He founded Shaw Brothers with his brother, Run Run Shaw. 2 Besides being a film magnate, Runme was also a well-known philanthropist.
Tan Sri Dr Runme Shaw, was Chairman and Founder of the Shaw Organisation (Singapore). He passed away on 2nd March 1985 at the age of 88 after being in a coma for 2 1/2 years. He is survived by his wife Peggy (23 June 1916-, Jiangsu) and sons Vee King and Vee Foong and daughters Doris, Vivian, Nora and Sylvia.
The Shaw Organisation was founded in 1924 when the late Tan Sri Runme Shaw (1901-1985) arrived in Singapore from Ningbo, Shanghai. He was the third of seven children of a Shanghai textile merchant, Shaw Yuh Hsuen (1867-1920).
