This led to the construction of the first Chinese Methodist Church at Telok Ayer Street. Inroads to the Chinese community were also established through the setting up of schools such as Anglo-Chinese School and Chinese Girl’s School (later Fairfield).

Jul 3, 2017 · The humble beginnings of Paya Lebar Chinese Methodist Church (PLCMC) can be traced back to amongst the remote attap villages located at Hougang in 1937. Today, 80 years on, God has blessed PLCMC with eight congregations across four languages (Mandarin, Hokkien, English, and Teochew).

Paya Lebar Methodist Church was established on 10 July 1932, with the transfer of a few members from Wesley Methodist Church, and the Straits Chinese Churches. At our inception in 1932, we had only 18 full members on the roll. Rev Abel Eklund conducted the inauguration service in a shophouse chapel at 166D Upper Serangoon Road.
Paya Lebar Methodist Church is known for its services for Peranakan Christians which are conducted in Baba Malay. The church also used to house its Chinese ministry, the Paya Lebar Methodist Chinese Church, from 1938 to 1968, before it relocated to its present site at Upper Paya Lebar Road.
