Guyana (/ ɡ aɪ ˈ ɑː n ə / ⓘ or / ɡ aɪ ˈ æ n ə / ⓘ ghy-A(H)N-ə), officially the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, is a country on the northern coast of South America, part of the historic mainland British West Indies. Guyana is an indigenous word which means "Land of Many Waters".

Parika is a busy spot on Sundays, and the kick-off point for travels down the Essequibo River. The Guyanese Heritage Museum which is a hotel and museum of all things Guyanese is at Kastev. Much of the area is protected by the World Wildlife Foundation, and has been designated an area of special natural importance.
