Sejong or Sejong City (Korean: ⓘ; Korean: 세종; Hanja: 世宗), officially the Sejong Special Self-Governing City [3] (세종특별자치시; 世宗特別自治市), is a special self-governing city and the de facto administrative capital of South Korea.

The City got its name, “Sejong”, through a public naming contest and started off with Yeongi-Gun, surrounded by Daejeon, Chungju, Gongju and Cheonan, as its center. As central administrative agencies were moved from capital area to Sejong, it was developed as a multi-functional administrative city.
