Restaurant Takeover - Hell's Kitchen is the seventeenth episode of Season 8 of MasterChef. It was aired on September 13, 2023, on FOX. In that episode, the final six ran Hell's Kitchen, and one team had a complete disaster from start to finish.

At Funner, California, the final six arrived at Harrah's Resort, with Reagan wanting to play the slots despite being unable to. As the group walks through the casino, they arrive at Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen and enter the dining room. Sav knew this was not an average fine dining restaurant as Hell's Kitchen was Ramsay's baby, and he had higher standards in the kitchen. Ramsay welcomed the final six to Harrah's Casino as Aaron said their chances of winning MasterChef were growing. Now, the judges decided to test the home cooks' ability to run a fine dining kitchen as Joe announced the Restaurant Takeover Team Challenge. Ramsay said that Hell's Kitchen at Harrah's Resort was the largest of the franchising restaurants he opened, and the final six must feed each guest that entered the doors. Also, Ramsay demanded the best from the home cooks as his reputation was on the line.

Before dividing the six into two teams of three, Ramsay announced that the winning team would be in the semi-finals while someone from the losing team would be eliminated. Due to the high stakes of the Team Challenge, Ramsay announced that the judges had decided to organize the teams and the team captain in advance. Because Grant and Wayne won the Wall Challenge, they were named team captains for the red and blue teams respectively. Grant's red team included Jennifer and Sav, while Wayne's blue team included Kennedy and Reagan. After grabbing their aprons, Grant admitted he was scared about taking over Ramsay's restaurant, but he was ready to show the judges he could cook and lead. In contrast, Wayne called it a dream come true to lead a team in Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen.

After changing into their chef jackets, both teams met the judges at the pass so Ramsay could review the menu. Appetizers included pan-seared scallops with celery root puree, braised celery root, bacon fricassee, and butter-poached lobster truffle risotto with crispy onions. Entrées had filet mignon with parsnip puree, roasted tomatoes and Béarnaise sauce, crispy skin salmon with white beans and chorizo, sea bean salad, and citrus Beurre Blanc. As the home cooks took notes, Jennifer got intimidated by the risotto and knew Ramsay and knew they must get the dishes right to Ramsay's standards. After the demonstrations, Ramsay announced he was expediting both teams' orders as he refused to send out something imperfect.

As guests arrived, Grant assigned Sav to cook the scallops and Jennifer to cook the risotto, leaving himself to plate at the pass. In the blue kitchen, Wayne told Kennedy to cook the scallops and Reagan to cook the risotto while he plated and help whenever he was needed. As the home cooks prepped, Sav admitted how far-removed Hell's Kitchen was to her farm, but she wanted to win so she could do her farm-to-table restaurant. As the guests sat and placed their orders, Joe gave Ramsay the first set of tickets, and the latter called them out. Jennifer burned the rice for the risotto in a hot pan, making her embarrassed as she was flustered due to the stress of the night. Ramsay could not believe Jennifer burned a risotto at the first minute of the night and told Grant to dig deep and find his voice. Despite the rocky start, Grant stayed confident as Jennifer and Sav were strong cooks.

In the blue kitchen, Wayne told Ramsay they would be ready in two minutes and told Reagan and Kennedy what to do to improve their food. However, Kennedy did not like how Wayne micromanaged her. Still, Wayne's leadership allowed the blue team to serve their first order, but in the red kitchen, Sav was caught not plating the scallops with Grant. Still, Sav came to help, and the red team served their first order of appetizers. On the following ticket, Sav got confused about how many scallops were on order, much to Ramsay's dismay. As Joe served the guests, Ramsay caught Kennedy cooking scallops before Reagan fired the lobster, making Wayne acknowledge how intimidating the Restaurant Takeover Challenge was. As the scallops were at the pass, Ramsay ordered Wayne to direct his team to get the risotto to the pass first. Still, the blue team served their ticket, and in the red kitchen, Sav got overwhelmed by the scallops as the pan was too hot. Ramsay saw mangled scallops at the pass and claimed he would not serve them to his bulldog, who passed away three years ago. Grant acknowledged that Sav was not confident about the scallops and began helping her. Thanks to Grant, the red team served their second table, but Ramsay was not happy as they had a full dining room. Ramsay ordered the red team to move faster.

As diners on the red side enjoyed their appetizers, the blue team continued to push out appetizers at a steady pace. The following ticket was a six top, which they succeeded at. By then, the red team was behind on orders as some of their tables grew impatient. When Grant announced five minutes on the following order, Ramsay was not happy. Then, Sav dropped scallops when Jennifer did not fire the risotto, forcing the former to dump them as Ramsay noticed the lobster was not fired. With the red team in chaos, Ramsay asked Aaron to help them, or else they would never get appetizers out. Joe apologized to the red table, but thanks to Aaron, the red team got their order out. In the blue kitchen, the blue team continued to push appetizers, and Reagan planned to use extra risotto from a previous order for the following ticket. However, Ramsay refused to let Reagan do that and warned her not to disrespect himself and his restaurant by using old risotto for a fresh table. Reagan said she wanted to use them due to how laborious making risotto was, but she acknowledged that she had no say. Scallops were at the pass in the red kitchen, but Jennifer was late on the risotto. Ramsay discovered a raw lobster tail on the board, forcing them to heat them as the former and Joe sent up an incomplete order. As the blue team continued to push out appetizers, Kennedy noticed an attitude change in Wayne as he was not as demanding as he was at the start. Meanwhile, Joe served the rest of the red team's order as both teams reached their final ticket. After the blue team finished their tickets, Ramsay lectured the team for their slow start and Reagan's attempt to use old risotto for a new order. Still, Ramsay told them to focus on the entrées. Sav splatted parsnip puree on a plate in the red kitchen and was forced to grab a new bottle. As the red team stumbled on the final ticket, Ramsay was not pleased by the lack of communication from the kitchen and told Sav that she must focus while warning Grant to get it in gear if he wanted to keep his captain position.

With service over, Ramsay gathered both teams to the dining room and explained to the guests about the challenge. After deliberation from the judges and feedback from the diners, Ramsay named the blue team the winners, meaning the three would enter the semi-finals. As the diners left, Grant knew the red team lost because none of them were on the same page and that Wayne did a great job leading the blue team. Ramsay told the red team that they never worked as a team and left with the judges to discuss who was going home.

During deliberation, most of the conversation went between Sav's poor performances on the line and the pass, Jennifer's raw lobster tail, and Grant not stepping up as a leader. After discussing who to send home, the judges returned to the home cooks and announced that Sav was going home due to her poor performances on the line and the pass. Ramsay felt that Sav collapsed under the pressure of the challenge, but Aaron told her not to let that failure deter her cooking dreams. Sav thanked the judges for putting the time into her cooking and hugged the judges before undoing her apron. During her exit interview, Sav acknowledged that her inexperience got the better of her, but she gave it her all, and she knew what her future could look like in the culinary world.
