Savernake Forest is the largest forest in private hands in the United Kingdom. The forest owned since the Norman Conquest by the same family for 32 generations is managed (since1939) by the Forestry Commission.
Savernake Forest is a few minutes outside Marlborough and a lovely place to walk and enjoy the peace and birdsong. The bluebells were out and we could hear woodpeckers hard at work! There are pathways so it’s pretty good for everyone to enjoy this forest, however we felt wasn’t enough signage so used our phones to find our way back to car.
