The plot concerns an aging outlaw gang on the Mexico–United States border trying to adapt to the changing modern world of 1913.

A vicious, confusing gunfight occurs, with gang members, bounty hunters, and civilians caught in the crossfire, resulting in numerous deaths. Only six members of the gang escape - Pike, Dutch, the Gorches, Angel, and Buck, who has been shot in the face and blinded - and the rest of the gang is killed.
