Apr 6, 2006 · I can only say that is was a ubiquitous part of child culture in the 50s, that the local version was the classic "Liar, Liar, pants on fire, nose as long as a telephone wire," and that the similar taunt "Tattletale, go to jail, don't forget your ginger-ale" makes me believe that rhyme was primary and sense very secondary in inventing and maintaining these sayings.
