Post-punk revival (also known as indie rock revival) is a genre or movement of indie rock that emerged in the early 2000s as musicians started to play a stripped down and back-to-basics version of guitar rock inspired by the original sounds and aesthetics of post-punk, new wave and garage rock.
During the late '90s and early 2000s, a rash of bands -- including Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, the Strokes, and the Rapture -- surfaced with clear indebtedness to post-punk and new wave, bearing inspirations like Blondie, Gang of Four, Joy Division, and Wire.

Jan 31, 2024 · Any list of post-punk revival bands has to include the likes of Interpol, the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, White Stripes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. While a lot of these are New York bands, post-punk revival bands came from all over, like The Hives from Sweden.
