Mackenzie District is a local government district on New Zealand's South Island, administered by the Mackenzie District Council. It is part of the larger Canterbury Region. The region takes its name from the Mackenzie Basin, an elliptical intermontane basin which covers much of inland Canterbury.
mackenzie.govt.nz. Mackenzie District Council is the territorial authority for the Mackenzie District of New Zealand. [1] Its headquarters are at Fairlie. The council is led by the mayor of Mackenzie, who is currently Anne Munro. There are also seven ward councillors.
The Mackenzie District Plan assists the Council in carrying out its functions under the Resource Management Act 1991 so that it may achieve the purpose of the Act which is to "promote the sustainable management of natural and physical resources."
