Shakespeare's Globe Today. In 1970, an American actor and director Samuel Wanamaker set up the Shakespeare's Globe Trust to pursue his dream of reconstructing the original Globe Theatre. For what would be almost the next 30 years, he and his team worked and fought to obtain the permissions, funds, and research necessary for a project of this scope.
In 1970, American actor and director Sam Wanamaker founded the Shakespeare Globe Trust and the International Shakespeare Globe Centre, with the objective of building a faithful recreation of Shakespeare's Globe close to its original location at Bankside, Southwark.
THE SHAKESPEARE GLOBE TRUST ANNUAL REPORT AND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 2020 FOREWORD As reported in the 2019 Annual Report issued at the end of October 2020, the impact of the Covid-19 global pandemic presented the greatest threat to the future of Shakespeare’s Globe since its opening in 1997 and its immediate impact was financially devastating.
