Hamilcar Barca or Barcas (Punic: 𐤇𐤌𐤋𐤒𐤓𐤕𐤟𐤁𐤓𐤒, Ḥomilqart Baraq; c. 275 –228 BC) was a Carthaginian general and statesman, leader of the Barcid family, and father of Hannibal, Hasdrubal and Mago. He was also father-in-law to Hasdrubal the Fair.
Hamilcar Barca was a general who assumed command of the Carthaginian forces in Sicily during the last years of the First Punic War with Rome (264–241 bce). Until the rise to power of his son Hannibal, Hamilcar was the finest commander and statesman that Carthage had produced.
