Over the years we've seen many variations of the classic zombie film, featuring slow zombies, fast zombies, consumerist zombies, even pet zombies. Warm Bodies has a take on the genre that's entirely new: a zom rom com told from a zombie's perspective.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, the story centers on R (Nicholas Hoult), a young zombie whose outside slack-jawed appearance is at odds with his chatty inner monologue. He's bored with his life, which involves shuffling around an abandoned airport, occasionally experiencing a human's memories by eating their brains, and having grunting conversations with his best friend M (Rob Corddry).
One day they run into a group of humans, including Nora (Analeigh Tipton), Julie (Teresa Palmer) and her boyfriend Perry (Dave Franco). R soon unexpectedly falls for Julie, saves her, and keeps her as a pet to stare at. His love restarts his heart, setting off a change that could affect the whole post-apocalyptic world.
It's smart story and fresh humor makes Warm Bodies a welcome entry in the zombie genre. An enjoyable "zom rom com" where you don't need to leave your brain at the door.
'Warm Bodies' is a fantastic film about a zombie named 'R' who falls in love with a human and tries his best to protect her from the rest of the zombies. The plot is very strange but if you embrace its weirdness and eccentricity then it is brilliant.
