San Ángel is a colonia (neighborhood) located in the southwest of Mexico City in Álvaro Obregón borough. Historically it was a rural community called Tenanitla in the pre-Hispanic period. Its current name is derived from the El Carmen monastery school called San Ángel Mártir.
Aug 2022. The affluent suburb of San Angel has streets with beautiful mansions, quaint little parks and fountains and posh restaurants. We traveled there to visit Diego Rivera's Home and Studio built by the great Juan O'Gorman. Adjacent to Rivera's studio is the house built by O'Gorman for his father.

- Plaza San Jacinto. Architectural Landmark. Plaza San Jacinto marks the heart of San Ángel and is a square well-known for its outstanding beauty and bloody history.
- Bazaar del Sábado. Bazaar, Market. It is easy to spend a whole Saturday at El Bazaar del Sábado, San Ángel’s lively and upmarket bazaar at which the best handicrafts of the highest quality from all over Mexico can be found.
- Museo Casa del Risco. Museum. Museo Casa del Risco is a mansion from the late 17th century and is one of the prettiest houses facing the square.
- Templo y Ex-Convento del Carmen. Monastery, Museum. Construction on the monastery began in 1615 and over the years became the place with which the people of San Ángel could identify the most.
May 18, 2022 · San Ángel is located south of Mexico City, just west of the popular Coyoacán district. Pairing a visit to San Ángel with a trip to Coyoacán is the perfect way to spend an entire day. Away from the crowded city centre and up above all the hustle and bustle.
Tourism in San Angel CDMX. This neighborhood has been kept in a time capsule. The beautiful plazas, narrow cobblestone streets, and old colorful houses with elaborate balconies, maintain an authentic colonial atmosphere. Today San Angel also features many exclusive boutiques and art galleries.
