Feb 18, 2009 · Senior Member. I agree. An obstruction is something blocking, usually completely, a passage. The obstruction needs to be removed or expelled for the passage to be unblocked. An obstacle, on the other hand, is something that is in the road but which can possibly be avoided. For example, a small pile of bricks in the middle of a road is an obstacle.

Though they may colloquially sounds just as well, in this specific example, "speak more slowly" is the more grammatically correct option. For example: WRONG: The term is more wider used in formal writing. RIGHT: The term is more widely used in formal writing.
