Mar 12, 2017 · The name "Gotham City" was first used in Detective Comics #48. (1941) Gotham would start to get more character in the 1970's as Batman's writers and editors began to alter Batman from his more campy appearances in the 60s. In Detective #327 we start seeing more of Batman at night and both Gotham and the Batman take on a much darker tone.
Mar 12, 2017 · 50. Every superhero began from somewhere. Batman had his origins in Gotham because it was a city that needed a symbol, a savior who selflessly acted right no matter what. Superman began from Metropolis that way, etc. But when you look at DC heroes from the context of Justice League, you see that they leave and save the planet from bigger problems.
Superman doesn't live in Gotham City. Superman lives in Metropolis. It seems to be relatively near Gotham geographically (both appear to be in something like the New England area), but they're definitely different cities.
Aug 22, 2015 · According to Brave and the Bold (Vol. 1, #179), Gotham City is eventually annexed by Metropolis by the era of The Legion of Superheroes, turning all of Gotham into just one of Metropolis' neighborhoods.
