Kilmodan is a civil parish situated on the Cowal Peninsula, in Argyll and Bute, west of Scotland. It includes the valley of Glendaruel and surrounding areas, with Kilmodan Church located in the Clachan of Glendaruel. The alternative historical spelling, Kilmadan, is no longer used.
Built in 1783 Kilmodan Church (or Kilmodan Kirk), is in the Clachan of Glendaruel in the Kilmodan parish of the Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute, West of Scotland. It is constructed to a Georgian T-plan design and a category B listed building.
Overview. Admire the carvings on this collection of late-medieval sculptured stones, set in a churchyard burial aisle. The Kilmodan Sculptured Stones comprise nine late-medieval West Highland grave slabs and one post-Reformation grave slab from 1636.
Kilmodan Church The existing church is a Georgian T-plan church built in 1783 on the site of an earlier church of 1610 or before. The earliest Christian settlement was on the hillside to the east of the present building and thought to be contemporary with St. Columba.

The parish church of Glendaruel is also traditionally called Kilmodan; ‘the church of Saint Modan’. It’s number 3 on our Faith trail, and a wee gem of a place.
