  2. Lake City is a city in Columbia County, Florida, United States, and the seat of the county. It was founded in 1821 as Alligator Town and renamed in 1859, and it is known as "The Gateway to Florida" because of its location near two interstate highways.

    • Olustee Festival. A landmark in the calendar for some 50 years, this two-day event had been changed when I wrote this article. For decades, a multi-day reenactment of the Battle of Olustee had been the focus of the celebrations.
