She doesn’t have to belt the lines for it to be similar it’s just a vibe. But the belting is part of the vibe.

Then Cruel Summer comes on and I turn the volume even louder and sing along which I usually don’t for IFTHE. Then when Cruel Summer finishes, I hit the back button and listen to it again. Sometimes only 2 times, sometimes 5 times, sometimes the entire car ride the rest of the way. To me, Cruel Summer is already a top 4 Taylor Swift song to me.

Jun 25, 2020 · The phrase “Cruel Summer” in itself I’ve seen a lot of internet Swifties say this is specifically summer 2016 bc of the Kim Kanye crap. I definitely agree it’s about Taylor’s summer 2016 BUT I love how Taylor makes things so relatable so I think it also is about the summer fling itself being “cruel” in general.
I loved Cruel Summer right off the bat. It gave me chills! I’ll never forget when Cruel Summer was being serviced to radio and (I think Taylor and her team was testing the waters with this song) then Covid happened shortly after. I never thought this song would get the love from the world it deserved and I’m so glad CS had a resurgence.
